Tuesday evening’s tornado outbreak has spawned numerous devastating tornadoes across the central plains and is still going at this hour (1:30am cdt). So far, at least 9 confirmed tornado reports with many more to be counted. Preliminary reports of dozens dead. Around 5pm this evening, storms broke the “Cape” and exploded over much of Kansas. Shortly later, a line began to extend from Iowa to Northern Texas with the main tornadic cells being in Nebraska. Confirmed tornado reports began coming in around the Harveyville, Kansas area with a non warned storm. The little town off 200 sustained allot of structural damage as 9 were injured, 1 critically. Damage assessors will survey the damage on Wednesday. Preliminary estimates believe a Ef1 or Ef2 hit the small town. Other areas nearby in Wabaunsee County saw mobile homes flipped over, trees and power lines down, and barns knocked over.
After storms rolled through Kansas City around 10pm, many residents reported power outages and flooding in and around the area. Storm Central’s very own Jack Diebolt reported frequent lightning strikes with torrential rains and wind. Just a bit later, severe storms moved eastward into Missouri. Due to the extremely high shear levels being over 105mbs at a point in time, storms that were barely severe grew into large and dangerous super cell thunderstorms. Around the Girard, Kansas area, a super cell thunderstorm began taking on extreme tornado like characteristics and kept moving eastward. Miles west of Lamar, Missouri, a tornado touched down in Barton County. Reports of tornadoes came in from in and around the Lamar, Missouri areas. Damage was reported as well near Stockton Lake as the storm moved east, with airport hangars reportedly damaged in Stockton. Power was knocked out in the Morrisville and Brighton areas around 11:30pm. Golf Ball sized hail fell at Bolivar at approximately 11:50 with a tornado following route 32. Emergency management in Dallas County reported houses destroyed and major damage southwest of Buffalo at 12:06 a.m. Structural damage was also reported in Long Lane. Spotters also reported a tornado on the ground in Lebanon at 12:25am. Lebanon firefighters reported debris in the air near the Lebanon Airport. The Laclede County Office of Emergency Management reported structural damage and power outages in and west of Lebanon, but no reports of injuries were recorded.
Damage reports also coming from Branson, Missouri where either a tornado or wind damage occurred around 1am. Gas stations roofs damaged and trees down. Power is also out in areas. Storms continue to move eastward associated with a line of storms stretching from Iowa to Oklahoma. Storm Central kept their viewers covered with nonstop severe weather coverage. Many were very appreciative of it as well. Devastating Tornado Outbreak Strikes Central Plains Tuesday Evening into overnight. Big Cities Like Branson/Kansas City/Joplin/Lamar Missouri were all hit. Major tornadoes with bit debris balls took residents by surprise with no warnings in Nebraska. Such a sad story... The latest now!
