If OP is just visiting, there will be no need to sign a contract. But, should be able to get a cingular prepaid sim, and as long as he has the correct settings it should not be a problem. Actually, cingular is one of the few providers that offer full GPRS access on prepaid. Get a sim on eBay, get the correct settings, and you are good to go! You definitely need to make sure your phone is unlocked.

I've got the same doubts.
Ask operators if it's true that you have to give an american address to make the wireless cingular contract to connect your laptop to the net. That's it.

I also found plenty od cingular wireless stores in Dallas, TX where I will be arriving, would be fine to set things up as sono as possible.

Well it doesn't matter...even it can't be in this way...if I can get the card through someone from States, who will just buy it and sed it to me by post office, then its ok...but are we sure?
