If OP is just visiting, there will be no need to sign a contract. But, should be able to get a cingular prepaid sim, and as long as he has the correct settings it should not be a problem. Actually, cingular is one of the few providers that offer full GPRS access on prepaid. Get a sim on eBay, get the correct settings, and you are good to go! You definitely need to make sure your phone is unlocked.
