Ne hai citati 3 in 23 anni.

febbraio 2015 in media , relativamente freddo

"Snow cover extent (SCE) was initially determined from imagery taken by optical television cameras in the 1960s and 1970s, first by the Television Infrared Observation Satellite (TIROS-1) and subsequently by the Very High Resolution Radiometer (VHRR) and the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) onboard polar orbiting weather satellites (POSs) launched by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Since then, weekly SCE charts with spatial resolutions of about 190km have been derived, mainly for numerical weather forecasts using visible satellite imagery (Matson et al., 1986, Matson, 1991, Robinson et al., 1993).

We consider the differences in the sign of the slopes between the PMSCEs and EASCEs in the NOAA products to be caused by variations in the data analysis methodology in terms of snow detection criteria and the spatial resolution of the satellite data during long-term operation (at least since the late 1970s), which must have had serious impact on the long-term trend analyses of the NH SCE, as also noted by Brown and Derksen (2013).

Finally, as application examples, we derived a climatological map of the SCF and the long-term trends of the SCD from the JASMES SCE. The SCF map reveals the dynamic change pattern of the NH SCE throughout the seasons. Although the JASMES SCE exhibits negative trends in all seasons, the spatial distribution of the SCD trend exhibits non-monotonic shortening in the NH but geographically asymmetric responses along the Eurasian and North American continents. Western Eurasia exhibits strong negative (shortening) SCD trends of up to two months over three decades. On the other hand, some parts of eastern Asia and western and northern North America have relatively weak shortening or, rather, positive (lengthening) trends of one month over three decades."
