SuperTyphoon Gamede (cat. 5) forecasted to landfall to Madagascar

Hi all,

in this period the activity in Indian Ocean is very strong (the season is pretty finished now), another typhoon very strong is forecasted to reach the coast of Madagascar. Here more news about:

The wind forecasted is 140 knts (about 280 km/h) and height of waves 20 feet (about 6 meters).
Also Météo France issued a warning for Reunion Island, here there is a message (in French):

As of early Sunday morning, EST, Gamede wielded highest sustained winds of 105 mph with gusts estimated at 125 mph. The system is centered 190 miles north-northwest of the island of La Reunion. Motion was toward the west at 10 mph. Gamede has already battered La Reunion and the islands of Mauritius with torrential rain and strong winds. The town of Vacoas, Mauritius, has reported near 14 inches of rain in the past 48 hours, and the island of St. Brandon received over 6 inches of rain on Saturday. The towns of St. Denis and St. Pierre each reported winds sustained near 50 mph with gusts to 70 mph before instruments failed on Saturday.


Winds continue to build along the east coast of Madagascar, and as of noon local time, the town of Tamasina had winds gusting past 30 mph. This dangerous storm is forecast to further intensify, with some slowing in forward motion anticipated over the next 24 to 48 hours. A gradual turn toward the southwest is also expected. It is possible that Gamede's center will stay east of Madagascar, but the island nation will, at the very least be battered with strong winds, flooding rain and large waves. There also must be concern for La Reunion and Mauritius, which have already received torrential rain, and will continue to be slammed with rain and wind over the next two days.
