The meridional teleconnection reflects that there are linkages between both hemispheres.
SST over high latitudes in SH induces the
AAO and meridional teleconnection. However, the process and mechanism are still unclear. Wang and Fan[22] have studied the relationship between
AAO and precipitation in North China during boreal spring based on the reconstructed data since Qing dynasty, and found the meridional teleconnection. They suggest that western tropical Pacific Ocean is the key region impacting
AAO due to inducing the famous East Asian Pacific Ocean (EAP) or Pacific Ocean-Japan wavelet (PJ)[23,24] then role in the circulations and precipitation in North China. Another zonal wavelet occurs from west Europe to North China. Therefore, to make the mechanisms clear for the role of
AAO in the circulations of NH and East Asia, we need not only to know the interactions of
SST-Sea ice-Atmosphere over high latitudes in SH, but also to know the role of tropical convection in the circulation over high latitudes.
