TOKYO (Reuters) - La Corea del Nord ha lanciato due missili che sono ammarati nel Mar del Giappone e un terzo a lungo raggio, che non è riuscito nel suo volo. Lo hanno riferito la televisione Nhk e una fonte a Washington.
Ma l'agenzia di stampa Kyodo ha citato il ministero della Difesa di Tokyo secondo cui la Corea del Nord potrebbe avere lanciato anche un quarto missile.
Secondo Nhk un missile è terminato nel Mar del Giappone a 600 chilometri dalla costa nipponica. Poco dopo la tv ha citato il ministero della Difesa che ha parlato del lancio di un secondo missile nordcoreano.
Negli Stati Uniti un funzionario del Pentagono ha detto che la Corea del Nord avrebbe lanciato due missili di tipo Scud, non i balistici intercontinentali che destano la preoccupazione internazionale.
Ma fonti della difesa hanno detto in seguito che anche un terzo missile, a lungo raggio, è stato sparato, ma ha fallito il volo. La Cnn ha riferito che questo era un missile Taepodong-2, che si ritiene capace di raggiungere l'Alaska.

North Korea test-fires missiles

North Korea has test-fired a number of missiles, one of which was a long-range weapon capable of reaching the US, state department officials believe. It is thought the Taepodong-2 failed about 40 seconds into flight and was one of up to four missiles test-fired.
At least two of the missiles were reported to be shorter range and landed in the Sea of Japan.
US envoy to the UN, John Bolton, said he was "urgently consulting" with other Security Council members on the issue.
Before the reported launch, Japan had warned that any firing of the Taepodong-2 missile would be a grave and provocative act.
Both Tokyo and Washington said they would consider a range of options - including economic sanctions - if such a launch went ahead.
Heightened alert
The first missile was launched at 0332 Japan Time (1832 GMT) and crashed into the sea 600 km (373 miles) from the Japanese mainland, the public broadcaster NHK TV said.

The second was fired at about 0400, Japanese news agency Kyodo said.
Kyodo news agency said the first two were believed to be mid-range Rodong missiles, while Pentagon officials said they were Scud missiles.
A third long-range missile failed 40 seconds into flight, a US state department official was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying. CNN said it was the controversial Taepodong-2 missile.
There were later reports of a fourth missile being fired.
The US and North Korea's neighbours have been on heightened alert in recent days amid suspicions that Pyongyang was preparing to launch the Taepodong-2 from the Musudan-ri launch site in the north-east of the country.
'Strong protest'
After news of the missile launch Mr Bolton said: "We are urgently consulting with members of the Security Council."
Japan "strongly protested" North Korea's move, Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said.
The BBC's Charles Scanlon says North Korea has been feeling under pressure in recent months with the US refusing to negotiate on its demands over its nuclear plans.
This may be a way for North Korea to get attention and break the diplomatic log jam, our correspondent adds.
On Monday, Pyongyang warned it would launch an "annihilating" nuclear strike if its atomic facilities were pre-emptively attacked by the United States.
Washington dismissed the threat as "deeply hypothetical" and urged the North Koreans to return to six-party talks aimed at curbing the country's nuclear activities. The talks stalled last year.
North Korea had agreed with Japan to a moratorium on missile tests in 2002 and this was reaffirmed two years ago.
The last time North Korea tested a long-range missile was in 1998, when it launched a Taepodong-1 over northern Japan.
