Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, October 18, 2009. Typhoon Lupit will remain well out in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines on Sunday. While it will be Category 3 or 4 storm, it will not make landfall as it drifts toward Luzon. If the storm does remain on track to hit the island, this could be another major blow to the Philippines in this particularly deadly typhoon season. Residents should monitor the progress of the typhoon and note any changes to its path. The Sea of Japan will also be fairly active as two low pressure systems move through the area. The first low pressure system will begin the day in the central portion of the sea before drifting northward west of Hokkaido. A few showers are likely in northern Honshu and Hokkaido as the storm moves past these areas. The southern portion of Japan will remain dry from this storm. The second low pressure system will move over the Korean Peninsula late in the day and into the Sea of Japan by the end of the day. Significant precipitation will fall in the evening in North Korea and South Korea. For Australia, a large high pressure system will dominate the weather pattern in the country on Sunday. Thus, dry conditions will sweep across much of the country. The one exception to this will be north of Sydney where scattered showers are possible. Mild to cool weather is expected in the southeastern portion of the country, while warmer weather is likely in the western portion.
