(ANSA) - ANTANANARIVO, 17 MAR - Almeno 54 persone sono morte in seguito al devastante passaggio della tempesta tropicale Hubert sul Madagascar. Lo hanno reso noto le autorita' aggiungendo che i senzatetto sono quasi centomila.

L'erogazione dell'energia elettrica continua ad essere sospesa in una vasta area sud-orientale del Paese. E molte strade sono interrotte. Aiuti sono stati inviati dalla Francia e dagli Stati Uniti.

Secondo la NASA Hubert non era già più una TS al landfall, mapresentava comunque caratteristiche di un virulento sistema depressionario.Hubert's Remnants Still Raining on Southern Madagascar

Hubert may not be a tropical storm now that it has made landfall in southeastern Madagascar, but it's still a formidable and large storm system. NASA's Aqua satellite revealed that there are still some very high, strong thunderstorms in Hubert's remnants as it continues to bring rains and gusty winds to southeast and south-central Madagascar.

NASA's Aqua infrared satellite imagery from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument confirmed that some deep convection (rapidly rising air that creates the thunderstorms that power tropical cyclones) is still occurring in the storm, even though the center is over land.

The infrared image of Hubert captured on March 11 at 1053 UTC (5:53 a.m. ET) and showed some high, cold thunderstorms around the center of the storm, and that the eastern edge of Hubert was still over the Southern Indian Ocean. Hubert is expected to continue moving inland and grow weaker.

At 1 p.m. ET, March 11, heavier rains stretched from the city of Vavtenina southward through the cities of Mahanoro, Nosy Varika, Mananjary and Fianarantsoa. Most of the heaviest rains remained to the east and south of the capital city of Antananarivo.

Residents in southern and central Madagascar can continue to expect some moderate to heavy rainfall from this system over the next couple of days.

Ottima sehnalazione riguardo al landfall (NASA), ottime immagini satellitari... Grazie mille della precisazione... sono in ufficio a lavoro e non posso cercare immagini e notizie... ho trovato la notizia su ansa e l'ho messa sperando nell'intervento di qualcuno che corredasse le info con immagini!

Ho seguito completamente Hubert.. ha fatto landfall con intensita' di tempesta tropicale ed ha sfiorato la CAT1 di uragano con venti massimi di 55 knts.
Solo l'NHC continuava a seguirlo con 35 nodi di vento e 998 hpa (che è cmq intensita' di tempesta tropicale).
La tempesta si è sviluppata ed intensificata proprio nei pressi della costa, ma dopo il landfall ha resistito per almeno 30 ore a terra, nel sud dell'isola, accompagnata ancora da potenti celle temporalesche.

2238Z), HUBERT HAS MADE LANDFALL AROUND 21Z NEAR MANANJARY AT THE SEVERE TROPICAL STORM STATUS AFTER RESUMED A WESTWARDS TRACK OVER THE LAST HOURS.
