è previsto alle 18.28 il nuovo tentativo del lancio del Metop A, il primo satellite polare europea ricchissimo di strumentazioni.
Tanti i tentativi andati a vuoto, rimandati all'ultimo momento, stasera ci riprovano (ore 18,28)
qui il live del lancio.

October 19, 2006 Successful Launch and Orbit Injection of Metop-A
EUMETSAT confirms the correct injection of its new polar-orbiting Metop-A satellite into its orbit, following the successful 1714th Soyuz launch.
The Metop-A satellite was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan on 19 October 2006 at 18:28 CET using a Soyuz ST launcher. The first acquisition of the satellite was made around 19:35 CET by the Kerguelen ground station (in the south Indian Ocean) forming part of the Launch and Early Orbital Phase (LEOP) network. The correct separation of the satellite was also observed subsequently by a Russian tracking station and confirmed by Starsem, the launch service provider for Metop-A.
The current status of the satellite is nominal, and the critical solar array deployment has been successfully completed. The LEOP specific activities are performed at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt and will be proceeding with the deployment of all Metop-A antennas and the reconfiguration of the satellite followed by the necessary orbit control manoeuvres. The handover of Metop-A to the EUMETSAT operations is planned on 22 October 2006, and will be followed by the start of the in-orbit verification of the satellite.
EUMETSAT’s Metop-A satellite is the first of a series of three polar-orbiting, meteorological satellites which are planned to provide 14 years of advanced meteorological and climate observations. The Metop satellites were procured by a joint ESA and EUMETSAT team, led by ESA. The satellites were developed, manufactured and integrated by EADS Astrium, with payload instruments provided by EUMETSAT and it’s partner organisations: ESA, NOAA and CNES.
The launch services were provided by Starsem using a Soyuz ST rocket under EUMETSAT contract.
The LEOP activities are contracted by EUMETSAT to the European Space Agency at its European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt.
