    Predefinito Lighting Radar long range

    Hello all
I have make a lighting radar long range 2000-3000 over the land and more over the see .
    Here is my equipment

And here the Lighting Radar data
    http://www.geocities.com/peristerimeteo/radardata.html

It want little better calibration ,but i hope day by day it will be better .
The original consept and design is from Frank Kooiman .

    Hi Dimitris,
    nice job.
I've read about self-made lighting detector and I've seen that many have a coil antenna, just like yours.

I think that this is a dual coil antenna, right?
What kind of frequencies are you monitoring?
What is the total cable lenght of each coil?

    Hello and thank you
it is a loop antenna the frequency it is 10 KHZ and every loop must to have 25 meters cable 1,5 mm

So you're not monitoring ELF waves (<3KHz), it would be interesting

    very very interesting.
but now it has lost a lot of lighting near Verona (It)

You are correct train ,but i am the begining yet with it, day by day i hope to tuning well

    Hey all,

This looks pretty interesting thing. But how do you know if lightning coordinates are right, if you don't have a ground triangulation?

In my opinion, to get accurate and right lightning strikes coords its important to have several antennas installed in different locations.

I am surely interested in this thing to improve strikes map over EU.

    Hey
In the software you show you if you have conection and corelation with another stations
The strikes 70% - 80% i have observe is correct ,i do not beleive and i it will was so good .And with twince loop antenna is good if you have triangulation.

Well I think that the weak point of this projects is the self-made antenna.
Looking at schematics I see that the receiver acts like a stereo amplifier and all computational steps are delegated to the PC software.

You may find that this can lead to noise problems on the receiver part and that the chosen antenna path can be a critical point of this project: even the 90° corner between the two antenna loops has to be really accurate.

Can you measure input voltages from antenna loops?
Or, better than else, can you acquire them with a scope?

Now i do not can measure it because i have it on the roof ,look there are problems with noise Antenna it must away from TV -pc -air contitionded ,and others electromagnitim scope 10-15 meters but there is in the software something like gain and you put it down but it lost the good receiver if gain it is very low .
Noise there is at all the same system ligting detector and Boltec and from national lighting detector ,look here the Greek NOA
    http://cirrus.meteo.noa.gr/forecast/lightning.gif

You are correct it is like stereo aplifier with 2 microcircuit OP 27
Antenna with amplifier must to is so closed until 1 meter the max distance .
Cable if it is shield can to have about 40 meters from amplifier to sound card to pc .
But it want another card or PCI or USB external ,because with the same card to motherboard it have problems ,and not work .
