Very long cold spell in England

Winter in England is often mild and quite wet...or at least this is what it has been in the 3 previous winter I was here. This year instead it is a very cold and dry one, lots of fog and frost. From the 27th of December the daily average temperature never raised over 2.3C° here in Bristol: +0.5C°,+1.0C°,+0.4C°,-0.4C°,-1.9C°,-0.9C°,+0.5C°,-1.6C°,-0.7C°,+0.3C°,-3.1C°,+0.2C°,+2.3C°,-2.3C°,+0.4 C°,and the overall average temperature in last 15 days is negative (-0.35C°). That's really exception for England. I read on Internet that it was over 20 years that here we didn't experience such a cold long spell. Last Friday for instance at 2pm the temperature was -1.4C° and yet sunny.
