Four days in LA: the Pacific Layer at work.
Hi folks!
I just got back from a short (too short) vacation from LA. It was the first time for me and I was amused by the power of the Pacific Ocean. Having in my mind the lack of power of the Atlantic Ocean in influencing our area for the last years, I was expecting a calm (Pacific) enormous pool giving charm to an area which is wonderful from a natural point of view, but nonetheless lacks of culture and elegance.
While Palm Springs (and, even more, the Phoenix area) were experiencing a record wave, with temperature going up to +37/39°C, and temperatures at 850hpas skying up to a shocking (for the season) +21.4°C (in San Diego), the Los Angeles Basin was fresh and sticky for the fog (or mist, as they call it) coming from the ocean.
At Los Angeles International Airport (basically on the coast), the temperature for those days (from the 15th to the 19th of March), did not rise above +22°C, which might lows as down as +12°C. I even experienced a few drops caused by the ocean humidity!
What was really shocking was that, while on the Coast, from Palm Beach to Malibu, everything was gray and foggy, upper boroughs like Beverly Hills and Hollywood (at no more than 5/7 miles from the coast) were experiencing amazing clear days.
By the way, I got back to Pitts now. Today it was a nice day, but there is still some snow left by the last winter storm (the one that struck NY and New England a few days ago).

One friend of mine has made a Stage at LA. for trhee months and he didn't want to return home!

I go in California in August (with stage also in Nevada and Arizona…). They are ready for the +50°C of Death Valley
