Meteosat-9 becomes prime satellite at 0° longitude
From 11 April 2007 onwards Meteosat-9 will be the prime satellite for all 0° longitude services, while Meteosat-8 will be the backup satellite.
The swap from Meteosat-8 to Meteosat-9 services will take place at 13.00 UTC. Due to this transition the Meteosat-9 SEVIRI 12:45 image and associated Meteorological products will not be disseminated. In addition, the period between 13:00 UTC and 15:00 UTC has a high risk of interruptions to services. Users of Meteosat 0° longitude services should take note of this important change to the services. For full details on the changes scheduled to take place and the impact to services, please see Meteosat Image Services.
Meteosat-9, launched in December 2005, has been operating as backup to the Meteosat-8 satellite since July 2006. The transition to prime satellite marks the end of an extended period of validation required to correct reduced quality in the WV6.2 micron channel. The Meteosat-9 satellite takes over the 0° longitude services which include 15-min image data and meteorological products. The satellite is expected to continue to provide the prime service until 2012.
