At 16 november we have had rain at Beirut
the 17 november we have had rain and snow on the ground at 2000 m.
the 18 november too with snow at 1800 m on ground on the morning, and 2000 m at the afternoon! a little snowfall or it's the sunny day of november!
Today the snow is visible at 2300 m only....we have a sunny days
I write all this in italian in the general meteorological forum, because I'm not very good in English!
Bye!

How's november been as compared to average, André?
It's normal for me, because we have had many rain a first days....and snow in higher mountains.....but after we have had many days with mild temperatures...another perturbation in the middle of november, another snows in higher mountains........at the end I think that it can be considered normal.......
We have 19 C in average at Beirut, and 133 mm the normally rain.....we don't must have a heavy snowfall in mountains before December normally.....
Thanks, Bye!

Some years ago, I wrote some articles for Meteogiornale and Nimbus in italian, but I have the version of "clima e neve in Libano" in Frensh, English and Arabic! I can put here my english version?...
Thanks!

Climate and snow in Lebanon:
Lebanon, a country of the Middle East, in the east zone of the Mediterranean Sea. It is 4017 square miles, at 34 latitude North, borders with Syria in the north and east, Israel in the south, and the Mediterranean Sea on the west.
The west range of mountains in Lebanon can rise 10115 feet in the north at Qornet es Saouda, 8622 at Sannin and 6496 at Barouk mountains.
The interior plain of Bekaa is nearly 2950-3600 feet.
The east range of Lebanon’s mountains can rise 8625 in the north and 9232 in the south at Mount Hermon.
All these zones are parallel to the sea, and range from the north to the south.
In the winter, Lebanon has un experience of long periods of rains, with the perturbations and depressions of the Mediterranean Sea (which turn into snow in the mountains) because the perturbations comes from west and they are condensed and precipitated in the mountains of Lebanon. When the Mediterranean perturbation enters into the plain of Bekaa at the interior, it loses most of its humidity, for that, it has less rain, and some parts of north Bekaa has a semi arid climate because there are more in shadow zones.
The average temperature in January is very mild in the lebanese coast, 52-57 F, but in the mountains, the winter becomes cold with the altitude, 45 at 3000 feet, and 34 at 6000 feet, 23 at 9000 feet.
In August the temperature is very hot in the coast, 79-82 F, in the mountains, we have 72 F at 3000 feet, 64 at 6000 feet, 56 at 9000 feet.
In the Bekaa, the interior plain, we have a more continental climate, for that, the average temperature in January and August are 41 and 76 at 3000 feet.
The records of temperatures in the coast are 30 and 110. -2 to 86 degrees in the mountains, -9 to 116 in the Bekaa.
With the heavy excursions of temperatures in the Bekaa, we can have more cold in the plain from the mountains.
With the absolute record of temperature, we are in the coast of Spring, because the Khamsin winds come from the Sahara, but in the Bekaa, there are in Summer hot days.
In all Lebanon, but more in the west zone, January and February have the same temperature, April is cooler than November, August is hotter than July. We can deduce that the slope of temperatures are very degraded in Spring and also degraded in the Autumn because the effect of the sea is very significant.
The precipitations in Lebanon are concentrated in the Winter, moderated in Spring and Autumn and gone in the summer.
There are 26-40 inches in the coast, 40-65 in the mountains and from 31 in the south to only 8 in the north of Bekaa.
The days with rain or snow are 60 – 80 in the west of the country and 80 to 40 in the interior.
The days with frost are inexistent in the coast, from 5 to 10 days at 3000 feet, and more than 100 days at the summits over 6000 feet. In the Bekaa we have 25 to 55 at 2950-3600 feet because there is a continental climate.
The humidity in Lebanon is abundant all yearlong in the coast (over 70%). It becomes less humid in the mountains in the Summer (65%), and ever less humid in the Bekaa (45%). For that, Bekaa in the summer is healthier relatively humidity and hot coast.
The sunshine hours in Lebanon are always abundant: near 3000 in the coast, more than 3200 in the interior.
We can study now the snow in Lebanon. With a mild winter, Lebanon has an experience of very hard quantities in the mountains. Because the cold season is the rain season, for that it turns of snow easily in altitude. And we know that is snow not cumulated in very cold zones because the humidity is less, and it is very important. The country of Siberia or plains of Canada, for example, have a very cold winter, but with little snow, but the duration is great because there are very cold zones. In temperate mountains, there are quantities of snow that become easier for the long duration. For all that, in Lebanon’s mountains, the quantity of winter snow is the very motive of long duration.
We have only 0,2 to 0,3 days of snowfall in the coast, 1 day at 1300 feet, 4 days at 3000, but 35 at 5000, and 52 at 6000 feet.
In the Bekaa, we have 5 to 10 days of snowfall at 3000 feet because it is more continental.
The snow can lie 0 days at 1300 feet, 3 at 3000, 60 days at 5000, and 126 at 6000 feet. And 6 months of snow cover, from December to May, at 8000 feet.
Some small patches can resist during the long and hoot summer at 8000 feet or more, Where there is snow cumulated by winds or with the land or nature in favor.
The quantities are not measured, theoretically, all precipitations are snow at 8000 feet or more, because we have the concentration of precipitation in the winter season. If that is true, we must have 40-43 feet of snow a year in average in the summits.
But, if we search indirectly the result of mathematical calculations with Lauscher formula F=50-5T, which F is the percentage of snow, T the average temperature, we can deduce 23-26 feet of snow a year in average in the summits of Lebanon’s range.
We can tell that the mountains of Lebanon are anyway snowy zones. It is very interesting because we are in the arid or semi arid Middle East, with the Mediterranean climate and region. All that becomes possible to create skiing resorts in Lebanon, at the same altitude with Europe and the same duration of snow.
why in enghlish?
I have many articles in Italian (this article too), but there are on other meteorological site.
I don't do something wrong with this site that I respect....If the administrator accept.......
You can see an article on the italian version of general meteorology in this site. And on the Photo and with the Glaciology....all in Italian!
Ciao!
After a sunny days with t max near 20 C, we have now heavy rain at Beirut, and for a few days I hope, but the temperatures are mild (13 -15 C), and snow only over 2000 mt like in november....
Bye!
