Segnalo le alluvioni che stanno colpendo il Queensland, stato che copre la porzione nordorientale dell'Australia, inclusa la celeberrima barriera corrallina.

Le medie indicano un range di piovosità 100-400 mm per il mese di dicembre, con una variabilità medio alta compresa tra 1,8 e 2,0 (quindi 800 mm).
La piovosità autunnale è compresa tra i 150-200 mm dell'interno e gli 800-1.000 mm della fascia costiera con punte di 1.200 mm presso Cairns.

Le anomalie termiche sono state di moderata entità, con punte pari a -5° nell'interno, dovute essenzialmente alla forte Nigna.

600-1.200 mm le cumulate autunnali con distribuzione concentrata per oltre il 70% nel periodo tra il 15 novembre e il 31 dicembre.

Le piogge del periodo tra il 20-31 dicembre sono state pari a 660 mm con punte di oltre 800 mm nella valle del fiume Fritzory, che bagna Rockampton (media autunnale 380 mm con max scostamento 1,6).
Come quest'estate in Russia, l'anomalia riguarda un territorio vastissimo, pari a circa 950.000 kmq, ovvero oltre il 52% del territorio del Queensland.

Queensland bracing for more rain and flooding

Queenslanders and visitors to the state are being warned to prepare for heavy rain and flooding during the holiday period.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting hundreds more millimetres of rain to fall along much of the already saturated areas of the state before the end of the year.
The Bureau of Meteorology's Queensland Regional Director, Jim Davidson, said that many river catchments have become so thoroughly soaked that any further rain is likely to spill very quickly into rivers and streams.
Mr Davidson said that our current expectations are for rainfalls in the range 300 to 600mm across eastern and northern Queensland over the next week, with the bulk of the rain falling over eastern tropical districts north of Rockhampton. Higher falls are possible but these are expected to be isolated. Areas receiving the heaviest falls will vary over the coming week, being dependent on the movement of the monsoon trough and other weather systems.
The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to issue Flood Warnings and is also issuing broad-scale Severe Weather Warnings for heavy rain and flash flooding over much of northern and eastern Queensland. The Bureau will issue updates to these Severe Weather Warnings every 6 hours, giving people the latest advice on which areas are likely to receive the heaviest falls.
The Queensland Government emergency services advise people to take care on the roads especially in heavy downpours and not to drive through floodwaters. Swimming in swollen rivers and creeks must be totally avoided.
