I called now the director of the national service metorology at Beirut airport for the very high t max of the interior (the Bekaa valley between 2 mountains ranges) during the past days:

30 July:
Hermel 41, but without decimals (Bekaa North)
Haouch el Oumara 42 but without decimals (central Bekaa)
Qaraoun 40 but without decimals (South Bekaa)


31 July
Deir el Ahmar 42 (North Bekaa)
Hermel 42.8
Haouch el Oumara 41.8
Qaraoun 42.1

Beirut airport 35.3
Beirut Golf Club 35.7


1 August
Hermel 44.2
Haouch el Oumara 42.5

Please let me know how many meters above the level sea the locations are located. And don't forget to ask to the Director to send in Noril'sk a piece of your summer.

Yesterday I do not complain about the temperatures but only for the status of the sky. + 16.6 degrees in the afternoon but with rain for a total of 22 millimeters

I really couldn't imagine along the coast of this country the rainfall average was so high, quite similar to that of my city!

The snowy pictures in the photo section are stunning!

wundergorund.com reports thunderstorm and rain in Beirut on 6th October, in the morning. Perhaps, the thunderstorm interested tha area of the airport and not the centre of the town?

In an other site, I have found 29 mm with the event of 6th October.

Regarding the rains of september 2009, do you have some sources where are available the official dates. In the list of national meteorogical services in the WMO website, it is not indicated the web address of Lebanon Meteorological Department, perhaps the institute does not have a website ???

You know? in Lebanon we have many climates, all mediterraneans but with many differences. "Classic" in the coast and the west versant of the country, mountainous in the 2 ranges parallels on the sea. But between these 2 ranges we have a plain between 800-1100 m with a mediterranean climate, but sub humid in the south and semi arid in the north. For that in this region of interior (Békaa) we can have a t max very high (a records).
More hot and dry in the north because the foehn effect of the Lebanon range is more sensible (the range is higher in the north 3083 m the alt. max.).

The altitudes in the localities are:
Hermel 700 m
Deir el Ahmar 1080 m
Haouch el Oumara 920 m
Qaraoun 855 m

Beirut on the sea you know...
Beirut Golf Club 27 m

But attention, in the west versant of Lebanon, at these altitudes, the summer is less hot, and fresh, not like the interior.

Sergej! these temperatures are records here, and not the average temperatures, we begun to have a very hot days like Moscow and european Russia!!!

Very nice this day at Norilsk with these temperatures!!

Yes, in the 6th October 2009 we have had rain, but it's not equal in all the city and periphery I think.........

For me September 2009 it was a record.
Beirut airport 64.8 mm
Beirut Golf Club 104,7 mm

the average is between 2 and 7 mm in the city (grosso modo)!!
the last record are at Beirut AUB with 61,7 mm in 1891 !!!!

Yes, no very site for the national service I think, but you can find many informations from Ogimet, and GSOD NOAA-NCDC...Wunderground is not the better.....
If you want informations for Lebanon climate ask me....if you're italian you can find many thinks in the 3D of Lebanon in the meteorological section.

Here are the results for the month of July 2010 at Beirut airport by GSOD (normal values in parentheses)

t mean 27.7 (25,7)
t min average 24.4 (22.3)
t max average 31.8 (29.3)

and in Haouch el Oumara in the Bekaa plain internal (which had very high t max days ago)

t mean 27.2 (23.3)
t min average 18.7 (15.4)
t max average 35.6 (31.2)

Today I had a t min 28.1!!! and now 32.3 C..... terribile!

Considering what's happening in west Russia is not bad

Yesterday in Moscow oblast another 4 people died for the fires caused by the illegal use of the air conditioned. In the afternoon in Moscow the visibility was for 200 meters not more for hot and pollution combination. 350 kilometers away from Moscow and 350 meters above level sea there were + 35.2 degress.


Moscow and in part St. Petersburg are burning.........

Yes, in fact, all July and till now was very hot in European Russia, we all see the notices that you say in forum meteo, TV etc...

Here too it's very hot, but the deviation for the standard is more important in your country.

I hope that will change quickly......
